Citizen Input

The Jacksonville Police Department encourages citizens to participate in the department's internal review process. Any citizen that wishes to file a complaint against the agency or an agency employee or commend an employee may do so by the following means:

File a formal complaint in person:

A citizen can file a formal complaint by making contact through the Office of the Chief of Police or contacting an on-duty supervisor. If an individual chooses to use this method they will be given a receipt for their complaint. The complaint will also be accepted if the citizen wants to be anonymous.

File a formal complaint through the mail or electronically via email:

A citizen can file a formal complaint by submitting a letter or email detailing their complaint. The complaint will also be accepted if the citizen wants to be anonymous. The Jacksonville Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit can be reached by email or by post. The department's mailing address is P.O. Box 436, Jacksonville, N.C. 28540.

When a formal complaint is filed an investigator will make contact with the citizen and at the conclusion of the investigation of the complaint the citizen will receive notification of it's conclusion.

Annual statistics for 2007, 2008 & 2009.

File an informal complaint by telephone or in person:

If a citizen wishes to file a complaint in this manner he or she should make contact with an on-duty supervisor to voice their complaint. The complaint will also be accepted if the citizen wants to be anonymous. An investigator will not contact the complainant regarding an informal complaint unless contact is requested.

The Jacksonville Police Department values the input of the citizens of Jacksonville and pledges to investigate any complaint filed against any employee.
