POSITION QUALIFICATION
Applicant for position of Police Records Clerk I Must:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Have no convictions of a felony or serious misdemeanor and be of good personal character.
- Be able to pass a reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling test.
- Be able to type a minimum of forty (40) words per minute.
- Be able to operate general office and data entry equipment.
- Be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates.
APPLICATION INFORMATION
Interested persons must complete a city of Jacksonville application form. All applicants are photographed and fingerprinted when they return the completed application form. The following items of information must be copied and submitted by the applicant with the completed application.
- Birth Certificate.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
SELECTION PROCESS INFORMATION
Applicants are evaluated for essential requirements for employment. For those applicants meeting the essential requirements, the Police Department will perform the following screening process in the below order:
- Conduct a thorough background investigation.
- Undergo a personal interview.
- Take a test for reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling skills.
- Take a typing test.
It is the policy of the Jacksonville Police Department that all candidates for employment be informed, in writing, of all elements of the selection process and information as to what candidates may do if they fail on any part of the selection process. Applicants who were not disqualified for reasons such as extensive unfavorable character traits, may be retested after review by the Chief of Police and upon request by the affected applicant.
Applicants not appointed to probationary status on the basis of a single test, examination, or interview will be informed, in writing, of the specific reason within thirty (30) calendar days.
Applicants not selected by the Jacksonville Police Department within ninety (90) days of submission of their formal application, must update their application to be considered for future employment.
Successful applicants will be employed as Police Records Clerk I with a starting annual salary of $25,243.00.
The probationary period for newly appointed personnel is one year.
After one year, the employee is eligible for promotion to Police Records Clerk II.
Thereafter the employee will be eligible for normal salary increases on an annual basis.
Employee improvement increases in salary my be awarded on the basis of above standard performance.
