How do I get a copy of a Police Report?

You can request it by mail, include a self addressed/stamped envelope, or come in to the police department, 206 N. Marine Boulevard, Jacksonville, NC 28541, Monday through Sunday, 08:00am – 12:00am. There is no charge; however, you must be the affected party (victim) or representative/agent of the affected party involved to receive a copy of a report.

What telephone number do I call to report a non emergency situation like a noise complaint or a crime that did not just occur?

Most non-emergency situations should be reported by calling the
Police Department’s business numbers, 910 455‐1472 or 910 455‐1572. You may also report non -emergency situations through the City's Online Crime Reporting service.

My car was towed how do I get it back?

There are several circumstances for which a car is towed. You should first call the Police Department at 910 455-4000 to see if your vehicle has been towed by the police and if so, ask if it is releasable. Prior to coming to the station you should bring with you proof of ownership, driver’s license, and vehicle registration.

How long do my children have to be in a booster seat?

Children are required to utilize booster seats until they are eight years old or eighty pounds.

How do I report harassing phone calls/abandon vehicles/barking dogs, and other nuisances?

Please call the Police Department non emergency numbers 910 455‐1472 or 910 455‐1572. You may also report non-emergencies online through Jacksoville's Online Crime Reporting service.

What hours am I able to apply for a taxi permit or get fingerprinted?

These services are offered on Tuesday and Thursday, from the hours of 08:00am to 11:00am, and then again from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. The fee for fingerprints is $20.00. Taxi services are priced differently depending on the type of service requested. All fees are to be paid at City Hall, Water Department.  815 New Bridge Street, Jacksonville, NC 28540. Who do I call about crime prevention and neighborhood watch programs?

You can call the Community Service Division, Monday through Friday, 08:00 am to 05:00 pm, or you can leave a voice message with your request.

Can I make a police report at the police station, or does a Police Officer have to come to my house?

Citizens can visit the police station at any time to file a report. After midnight, you will need to utilize the call box phone located on the wall in the foyer of the Police Department. The dispatcher will request some information and a patrol officer will come into the station to take your report. There may be a short wait for officer, depending on the activity at the time.  However the dispatcher will inform you of any delays.

Who can I call if I have locked my keys in my vehicle?

The Police Department,  910-938-4000, will assist with vehicle unlocks during the hours of 06:00 pm until 06:00 am, unless there is an emergency inside the vehicle such as a child locked inside.

Emergencies- Please call 911 for immediate assitance.

Alternative suggestions for assistance include calling a locksmith or contacting the Sheriff Department at 910 455-3113.

How do I get a protection or restraining order?

The Jacksonville Police Department does not issue protection or restraining orders. A judge issues protection and restraining orders. For further information contact the clerk of court office at 910 455‐ 4458 or the magistrate office at 910 455‐6988.

How can I find out about my case?

To check on the status of your crime report, you can contact the Records Division, at 910 455‐1472. A clerk will research your information and direct you to the investigator assigned to the case. If you need to contact the Officer that took the initial report, you can check to see if he/she is available, if not, you may leave a message.

If I have a complaint against a Police Officer. What should I do?

The department is committed to maintaining a professional force; and in this regard if anyone has a complaint concerning an officer’s actions, he/she is encouraged to speak with a shift supervisor at 910 455‐1472 or come to the Police Department and someone will assist you. The Police Department will diligently investigate the complaint.

Where do I pay my ticket?

You may pay your ticket at either the County Magistrate's Office, 910 455-6988 or at the District Court House, 910 455-4458 in Jacksonville.

Where is the Sheriff's Office, Court House/Clerk of Courts, Jail, and/or Magistrate's located?

All are located off of Court Street. The Onslow County District Courthouse, County Magistrate Court and Clerk of Courts,  is located at 625 Court Street in Jacksonville. The Onslow County's Sheriff's Office and jail are located nearby at 710 Mill Ave, Jacksonville.
