The Jacksonville Youth Council primary mission is to give local youth a voice within the local government and to engage peers in community civic activities. Initially designed to only admit high school students who attend schools in the Jacksonville area, the Jacksonville Youth Council is now open to all high school students within Onslow County. HARMONY Grant 2011 Area youth, including members of the Jacksonville Youth Council worked together, gaining skills in philanthropy while learning the importance of life long giving. At the 2011 awards ceremony, teens, community leaders and local elected officials gathered to celebrate HARMONY. Four groups were honored with grant checks that will enable them to build on their youth led projects. Check beck for a video of the awards ceremony. Work with Future Leaders A goal of the office is to instill the goal for students to 'make leaving Jacksonville after education an option, not a requirement.' This goal involves building affinity for the community and advancing knowledge among peers about Jacksonville and Onslow County. |

The Youth Council elects their own offices, decides the functions and roles that they wish to perform. They meet regularly with the City’s elected and appointed officials. The Youth Council each year selects their own priorities, whether to hold JaxRox, a musical summit or to work with a charity or inter school program. |
National Day of Service
