Utilities Maintenance
Utilities Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 300 miles of water and 300 miles sewer lines that run throughout the City of Jacksonville.
The crew, comprised of 25 employees installs water and sewer taps, locates water and sewer lines for the community as well as other departments in the City, and performs various customer assistance type tasks. A section of Utilities Maintenance also maintains and repairs the City’s wells and sewer pump stations.
Maintenance Crews work to ensure that Citizens quality water and sewer service through maintenance and prevention. Citizens can also help keep sewer and water lines free and clear of clogs and backflows.

Prevention Education and Outreach
Prevention Tips to prevent backflow into a home or business, information regarding what not to flush and educational materials for properly disposing of cooking grease and other oils and fats is provided as a service to utility customers.
Utility Maintenance Crew members are available for outreach services, providing educational demonstrations and materials upon request.

Keeping our Sewer and Water Lines Clean
Clogs, blockages and backflow occurrences require additional crewmen/women to correct problems. Some areas within City limits even require regular maintenance and cleaning up of sludge and other in-organic materials found in the sewer and water lines. To prevent utility failures, equipment and staff are deployed to areas throughout the City. The extra cost required to clean up clogs, blockages and backflow may actually cause utility rates to rise. Costs due blockages, clogs and backflow that occurs in the home is the homeowner's responsibility.
Simple steps can be taken to help minimize homeowner costs and keep down utility rates. Everyone can help keep City sewer and water lines clean and flowing properly.
