Vacation Time
Vacation Accrual is as follows:
0-5 years of service: 12 days of vacation each year
5-10 years of service: 14 days of vacation each year
10-15 years of service: 16 days of vacation each year
15-20 years of service: 18 days of vacation each year
20-25 years of service: 20 days of vacation each year
25+ years of service: 22 days of vacation each year
Vacation accrual is limited to a maximum of 30 days.

Sick Leave
Sick leave accumulates at 12 days per year for all eligible employees. Sick leave accumulation is unlimited. Employees may substitute 20 days of sick leave for every month of service for retirement benefit calculations.

Retirement Plan - NC Local Government
Employees are required to participate in the NC Local Government Employee Retirement Plan. 6% of employee's gross income is contributed per pay period towards retirement. As of July 1, 2010, the City contributes 6.44% of employees' gross income per pay period for general employees and 6.41% of gross income per pay period for law enforcement officers.

Retirement - 401(k) Plan
Each pay period, regular employees receive a City contribution of 2% of their gross wages into their 401(k) account. Sworn law enforcement officers receive a City contribution of 5% of their gross wages per pay period. 100% vesting upon hire.

Retirement - 457 Plan
The City provides a voluntary 457 Supplemental Retirement Program. The City matches employee deferrals, dollar for dollar, with a maximum match of $1,000 per fiscal year. A five year vesting period applies to the City's match.

NC State Firemen's Pension
The City offers a voluntary, after-tax deduction of $5.00 per pay period to firefighters. Deductions are taken for a maximum of 20 years. After serving 20 years and becoming age 55, a retired firefighter will receive a monthly payment for life. This specific amount is determined by LGERS.

Special Separation Allowance
Annual separation allowance provided for eligible Law Enforcement Officers who have completed 30 or more years of credible service or have completed five or more years of credible service and are age 55. Payment ends at age 62.

Short-Term Disability (STD)
