Jacksonville Fire Department Honor Guard

The Jacksonville Fire Department Honor Guard is dedicated to providing a professional service to the people of the city of Jacksonville and to our brothers and sisters in the fire service. The service we provide is one of Honor, Dignity and Respect. By request of the Chief we may participate in funerals, parades and ceremonial events. In our service we Honor our fallen and their families, Dignity in special occasions and Respect for our beloved fire service. Request a service.

Brief History of the JFD Honor Guard

In 2003 Fire Chief Rick McIntyre of the Jacksonville Fire Department came to Driver Operator II John Romero with the idea of an honor guard. Romero started looking for ways to find information on honor guards. Chief McIntyre left a small manual of honor guard methods with him. Through information gained from the book and the amazing knowledge of the internet, Romero began to form the JFD Honor Guard.

Romero wrote an SOG/SOP, and sought out training, uniforms, and personnel. He was the first commander of the guard. The first detail for the guard was the 9/11 Remembrance Service at a beam from the New York attacks, on the Beirut Memorial grounds. That was a proud day to show respect to our fallen brothers and sisters in the emergency service. The Guard went on to proudly lead the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Memorial parade in May of 2007.
