Recycle Weekly!
For residential customers, recycling pick up is typically on your trash collection day. The City provides a recycling container for your use.
Please Note: To help us serve you better, please do not place recyclables in bags. Recycle items larger than 2 feet not accepted at this time.

Check the container, if there is a number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 you can put it in the City Recycle container! |
Recyclable Plastic
If you see the numbers 1-7 on the item, you can recycle it! (Large items over 2 feet in length are not accepted)
Some Acceptable Plastics include:
- Soda bottles, water bottles, cooking oil bottles, and medicine containers.
- Laundry/dish detergent containers, plastic milk carton, shampoo & conditioner containers.
- PVC Pipes, shower curtains, clear medical tubing
- Some Packaging Materials, Tupperware, yogurt tubs, medicine containers, and soda bottles.
- Plastic cups, disposable cutlery and cups (clear and colored), coffee cups, & some styrofoam containers.
Recyclable Glass & Paper
- Glass - Clear, Brown & Green
- Paper- Newspapers, Brochures,
- Magazines, Catalogues (2 in. or less), White Paper, Junk Mail, Colored Paper, Phone Books, Computer Paper,
- Paper Bags, File Folders,
- Soft Cover Books, Cardboard Boxes, Cereal Boxes
Recyclable Metals

Non-Recyclable Plastics
- No grocery or sandwich bags, 5-gallon buckets. Furniture and larger objects that do not fit in the City recycle container are Not acceptable
Non-Recyclable Glass & Paper
- No napkins, paper towels, tissues, paper plates or waxed material. Please do not put anything in bags. Please keep clean and dry if possible.
- No ceramic or porcelain cups and plates, drinking glasses or stemware, heat-resistant ovenware, light bulbs, mirrors, or window panes
Non-Recyclable Metals
- No pie pans or foil, cans that have contained hazardous waste (oil, insecticide, paint, etc.)

Recycling Educational Outreach
The City of Jacksonville offers a Summer Recycling Program for children. During the months of June, July and August. City staff visits childcare centers within the City limits to teach students and center staff the importance of recycling, and the importance of reducing the amount of garbage and trash that is buried in our landfills. Participant are provided posters, information, and a resource guide to assist teachers with their recycling efforts.
The students play games, win prizes, engage in open discussions, and participate in question and answer sessions. This program is designed to teach and reinforce the students' knowledge of recycling.
