 Beirut Memorial
All are welcome to join the Annual Beirut Memorial Observance, Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2PM. This observance will be held at the Beirut Memorial on the corner of Montford Landing Road and Lejeune Boulevard. Contact City Hall for additional information at 910 938-5200.

The Beirut Memorial originated with an idea from the Beautification and Appearance Commission meeting following the tragic bombing in Beirut, Lebanon on October 23, 1983. The Commission initiated a project to plant a memorial tree to commemorate each of the men whose lives had been lost in peacekeeping duties in Lebanon. These trees are now planted along Lejeune Boulevard.
The next step was to create a permanent memorial. Funds were raised by the Commission and on October 23, 1986, the Beirut Memorial was dedicated at the corner of Montford Landing Road and Lejeune Boulevard. Additional information regarding the Beirut peacekeeping mission is available online. Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune conduct an annual observance at the Memorial on October 23.
